In the kitchen area of the marshmallow systems, the product is processed and pumped towards the so-called make-up line. On this line, all varieties of marshmallows can be made. The process starts by depositing a thick anti-sticking layer of starch or dextrose on the conveyor belt. The marshmallow is then extruded on top of the starch and a layer of starch is deposited on top of the tropes. At the end the line, after the ropes had a chance to crystallize and cool, the ropes are cut using a guillotine. The frequency of cutting determines the length of the final product. After cutting, the product falls into a vibratory sieve where the starch is separated from the product. The starch is automatically returned to the starch depositing sprinklers.
